November 15 is National Recycling Day!

November 15 is National Recycling Day!

This is a great time to start a recycling program...especially in elementary schools.

Now that we are a couple months into the school year, National Recycling Day is a great time to get students involved. Teachers...you can build lesson plans around recycling and get administrators to start a school-wide program. At the very least, you can start a program in your class room.

Limited budget? Getting started is easy and inexpensive. Check out one of our most popular elementary school recycling posters:

Earth Day # 39

On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day was held. People all over the country made promises to help the environment. Everyone got involved and since then, Earth Day has spread all over the planet. People all over the world know that there are problems we need to work on and this is our special day to look at the planet and see what needs changing.
One person had an idea and kept working until everyone began working together to solve it. See what happens when people care about our world?

Think about what you can do for Earth Day this year.
We think Earth Day should be Everyday! We are always thinking of new ways to get people involved in helping the Earth.

Check out some great ideas here!

Our Green Display Promise

At Flexi Display, we take our dedication to the environment seriously. It's why we run our environmental employee awareness website, AwarenessIDEAS.com. It's why we strive to use as many recycled and recyclable materials in our products as possible. Our Flexi Display, manufacturered in Farmington Hills, Michigan keeps our Green Promise.

Our display is manufactured with over 70% post-consumer recycled product.

This material breakdown includes:

  • Our outer velcro fabric is made of polypropolene. It is easily recyclable. Has only one element; carbon, does not discharge unsafely in the environment, non toxic.
  • Limited usage of natural untreated wood.
  • The interior substrate of our panels is made of recycled materials.

Though our display is build to last many years, when the time comes to retire your display, it is 100% recyclable. Recycling of our display creates no toxins, no run-off, no damaging effects to the environment. Every piece can be easily sorted and recycled into post-consumer materials for items we use every day.

You can be assured that we're always looking for ways to produce a more eco-friendly display, and we hope to have this number closer to 100% in the next year.

Our BEE animated recycling animation has been a big success

This past week many many people have let us know they love our BEE recycling animation. It shows a cartoon BEE picking up aluminum cans and putting them in a recycling bin. Each has said they are having fun re-e-mailing it to their employee base, customers and their community.

You can for the next week capture this recycling animation and use it as a reminder in your organization.

We'll be creating new recycling and environmental animations, stay up with them.

Resolution- Reduce Reuse Recycle

It's a new year and that means making resolutions for a lot of people.
I usually don't like to make them, but this year I made one that will be easy to keep that everyone can do.
What is it?
Recycle!!! everything I can.

I spent the first day of 2009 cleaning the basement and making an area for 3 bins to put recyclables in. I am lucky to have a recycling pick up in my community, so I just take the bins right out to the curb for pick up. I put decals on the bins like this one:

so I can keep it organized and anyone can find the right place to put recyclables.
This is a resolution everyone can keep and is something everyone can do.

Resolve to recycle and help the enivironment everyday!

In 2009, do more to recycle, reduce and re-use

We're living in truly great times. With 2008 past us and 2009 full of possibility, consider your impact on the environment and what you're doing to reduce, reuse and recycle. Are you doing enough? Are you promoting recycling amongst your peers and co-workers?

Here are a few quick and inexpensive things you can do in 2009 to reduce your waste, reuse materials that would otherwise be discarded and recycle more efficiently:

  • Create Recycling Teams to coordinate activities. Empowering employees with a mission gives them a reason to complete that mission.
  • Dress your Recycling Teams in recycling-themed wearables that give them recognition and identity.
  • Let us create recycling message banners and posters with your Recycling Vision or Message.
  • Have a suggestion contest that lasts 30 days, one every 3 months. Have appropriate inexpensive Awareness for thoughtful ideas. If employees are involved, they'll be more likely to be active in the process.
  • Use our write-on/wipe-off charts designed to monitor your specific areas.
  • Encourage area groups to chart recycling methods or possibility of non-conformances on specific processes. We can make the charts.
  • Use our recycling information boards to hold posters and plant information inserts.
  • Use appropriate decals and signage by your machinery and recycle bins.
  • Let us design charts explaining how much your recycling efforts will save in time and materials over the course of a week, month or year.
  • Have a contest each month that relates to that months recycling poster. A contest keeps the poster message alive.
  • People talk about the problem and therefore pay more attention to solving it.
  • Have a contest that encourages each work area to improve its recycling conservation efforts. Give recognition for continuous achievement.
  • Use inexpensive awards for playing an active role in using your recycling program.
  • Give rewards and recognition to department managers and the maintenance teams staying on top of reducing recycling non-conformances.
  • Have a "Recycling Day Out", giving a paid picnic day for your company's employees. Use our bags and bins on site to encourage the theme.
  • Continue talking to us to work out new themes, new ideas and improve your process.
No matter what you do, just remember that today is the first day of the year and the first opportunity you have to make 2009 a more eco-friendly year!

How can recycling save energy?

Recycling means to use something again. Newspapers can be used to make new newspapers. Aluminum cans can be used to make new aluminum cans. Glass jars can be used to make new glass jars. Recycling often saves energy and natural resources through conservation.

It almost always takes less energy to make a product from recycled materials than it does to make it from new materials. Using recycled aluminum scrap to make new aluminum cans, for example, uses 95 percent less energy than making aluminum cans from bauxite ore, the raw material used to make aluminum.

Natural resources are riches provided courtesy of Mother Nature. Natural resources include land, plants, minerals, and water. By using materials more than once, we conserve natural resources. In the case of paper, recycling saves trees and water. Making a ton of paper from recycled stock saves up to 17 trees and uses 50 percent less water.

Holiday Recycling

Every year at this time, there is a spike in trash output. Wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and even Christmas trees find their way to the curb. If your community provides recycling pick up, your small efforts can make a big difference. Tie up cardboard boxes and newspapers. Cut up your live tree for firewood and mulch or donate it to a neighbor who has a fireplace.

If your community does not recycle, why not drop an email to your town council to push for it? The smallest efforts multiplied by just half of your community can make a difference for our future. Let them know - Recycling is Easy!
